2017-2018 New Signings!

Ahead of our first fixture against Wattstown RFC at Banwen Park this Saturday take a look at all of our new signings for this season. With the acquisitions we have made we have been able to create a strength in depth throughout the squad.

Coaching Staff/Captain/Vice Captain

Christopher Lock will continue in his role as Head Coach with Mike Smith continuing in his role as Backs Coach. Leighton Thomas will continue to oversee all things rugby within the Club. Antony Llewellyn was reappointed as Captain on Club Dinner night with Daniel Williams being chosen as Vice Captain. After the departure of Stephen Lewis we have appointed a familiar face as our new Team Manager:-

Neil Llewellyn

Neil joins the coaching set up after a long and successful playing career with Banwen RFC which has spanned over 2 decades. A former Captain of the club and part of the historic Silver Ball winning team in the mid 2000's. Neil brings a whole lot of experience, knowledge of the game and love for the club to the position and everybody is thrilled that we have him on board.

Player Signings - Forwards

Daniel Morgan  Hooker

Daniel has rejoined the Club after many successful years with Ystradgynlais RFC which saw them win numerous titles including the WRU Swalec Bowl in the 2014/2015 season. A former Captain of the Club.

Connor Davies - 2nd Row/Back Row

Connor joins us from nearby Glynneath RFC and is comfortable in both the 2nd and the Back Row. Some may recognise Connor as he had a few games on permit for Banwen at the tail end of the 2015/2016 season and really impressed.

Jamie Elkins - 2nd Row/Back Row

Jamie has joined us from Seven Sisters RFC and like Connor is comfortable playing anywhere from 4-8.

Ben Phillips - Flanker

Ben has rejoined Banwen RFC after a few seasons away from the Club. In that time Ben has played for Glynneath RFC and Merthyr RFC.

Player Signings - Backs

Marcus Lewis - Centre/Wing

Marcus joins us from Glynneath RFC and is at home in the Centre or on the Wing.

Corey Norton - Centre/Wing

Corey has joined us after his final year in the Dulais Valley Youth. Corey played in last years team that won the Afan Nedd Cup. Like Marcus, he can play in the Centre or out on the Wing.

Tomas Evans - Centre

Tomas joins us from Glynneath RFC although he had a season out of the game last year. Tomas played in the same Youth side as many of our players, coached by our Chairman Leighton Thomas.

Jacob French - Wing/Full Back

Last but not least, Jacob joins us from Seven Sisters RFC and is another product of the Dulais Valley Youth set up. Jacob comes into the team as a Winger/Fullback.

Player Departures

Robert Collins

Peter Davies

Owen Davies

All 3 have decided to rejoin Cwmgwrach RFC as they aim to rebuild a side after being unable to field a team last season. We thank all the boys for their efforts over the past couple of years and wish them and Cwmgwrach RFC the best of luck in the seasons to come. Also, congratulations to Robert Collins on being named Captain.

Ieuan Eltham

Ieuan has decided to rejoin Seven Sisters RFC after 3 seasons with the Club. We wish Ieuan all the best with his new team.
